The tremendous benefit of sharing information across different organizations has inspired the development of supporting technologies. We propose a framework called the Information Grid that supports information sharing in an open and dynamic way. Information Grid defines a standard called MDL to specify the hierarchy and structure of information according to different areas and scopes, and consists of three main components, namely, Marker Directory Service, Information Broker and Discovery Service.
